National Apprenticeship Week: Inspiring Future Careers

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we were delighted to welcome Ella Anderson (OW 2019) back to KESW. Ella, who is nearing the completion of her Degree Apprenticeship in Construction Management with Mace, shared her journey with our Fourth Form (Year 9) and Lower Sixth students. She spoke about her decision to pursue a degree apprenticeship over university and provided valuable insights into her experiences so far.

Thank you, Ella, for taking the time to inspire and inform our students about this exciting career pathway!

🎶 Inspiring teachers, uplifting music 🎶

We are delighted to share that the wonderfully talented Mr Theodore Frazer, (baritone) will accompanied by Mr James Perkins on the organ performing a short concert at King Edward’s as part of the `Year of the Organ` run by the Royal College of Organists.

The concert is at the KESW Chapel starting at 5pm and lasting around 35 mins.

No booking is required, entry is free and all are welcome, so please do pop in and join us for a real musical treat.

My daughter is a police cadet and from the experience is now determined to go to university to study Criminology, with the ambition of joining the force.

Her ballet shoes sit alongside her police boots, reminding us that there are no limits”.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 7 pupil Maddie’s continuing successes in the pool. Recently, Maddie has set a new Scottish Age Group Long Course Record in the 800m Freestyle in Sheffield, and won a remarkable 9 races at the Scottish National Age Groups Swimming Championships in Aberdeen!

Maddie’s performance exemplifies the dedication, resilience and pursuit of excellence we celebrate at King Edward’s.

An Animazing Day for 1st Formers at KESW! 💫

Our 1st Form pupils recently enjoyed an exciting visit from Animazing, an interactive educational experience that brings a variety of animals into the classroom.

The sessions supported the pupils’ curriculum learning in biology, building on their earlier work creating cell models. From owls and snakes to tortoises and frogs, the pupils were able to observe and even handle many fascinating creatures.

Ms Street, who organised the visit, shared:
“The pupils saw and touched a variety of animals ranging from a Barn Owl to a Pygmy Hedgehog to a Royal Python. There were many amazed reactions as they learnt how frogs absorb substances through their skin, the tremendous lifespan of Galapagos tortoises, and how global warming is affecting the birth rate of male crocodiles.”

We look forward to welcoming Animazing back to KESW in the future.

Under the careful guidance of our brilliant Design Technology teachers and supported by our outstanding 3rd Form pupils, they took part in a challenging bridge building workshop and all built their own truss bridge.

We are proud to welcome a number of local primary schools to join us in a broad variety of co-curricular activities and events throughout our academic year; a chance for pupils to try something new and an important opportunity for King Edward`s pupils to share our fantastic Design Technology facilities and support younger children in their endeavours.

Well done, St Mary`s, we look forward to you joining us again very soon.
