Pre-Sixth Form

King Edward’s offers a Pre-Sixth one-year GCSE programme to prepare for a full Sixth Form programme at King Edward’s. The programme has three pathways (academic, scientific and creative), in addition to art, music and drama classes, providing pupils aged 15-16 with an opportunity to adjust to boarding life within our houses. Our pre-sixth pupils are fully integrated with their peers in one of our six houses, whilst taking advantage of opportunities to enhance their level of spoken and written English, and to undertake educational and cultural trips around the UK.

Our pre-sixth pupils access their co-curricular activities with our 5th form pupils, and are encouraged to try out a wide range of clubs and societies at KESW. Every pupil has a dedicated team to care for their well-being, including the Pre-Sixth Coordinator, their House Parent, assistant House Parent and Matron, an academic tutor, the medical centre staff and the School Counsellor. We aim to provide our pupils with a home away from home during term time, and to provide every opportunity for our pupils to thrive within their pre-sixth year. Every House team’s aim is to make their House a home during term time and to ensure that a wide range of opportunities are provided for all our pupils to thrive.
