I was at King Edward’s between 1990-1995 and was in Wakefield, where the Head of House was Mr Bird (and for one year Mr Poulter when Mr B went travelling).
Some of my favourite memories involve the rivalries between houses, particularly for sports and drama shows. And the intensity and endurance of the friendships, through thick and thin. I still see my core friends from King Ed’s regularly! The privilege of having a 2-man study in the 5th Form and a single study for Sixth Form were also highlights.
Some of the “naughty” stuff was the most fun and memorable! Pinching too many cans of beer from the Sixth Form bar, and hiding them in a line along the outside gutter (they fit perfectly!)…”breaking-out” of the houses to meet up with other pupils after dark in the woods … it was easy to remove the old slatted windows on the houses back then, and jump onto the flat roofs below…
Hockey and football were great fun. I also loved drama classes and working up to production of the various shows in the main hall. And I loved History and Geography.
I went on to Oxford Brookes Uni to study Real Estate Management (property) and then went on to a job with a big surveying firm in London (now known as Cushman & Wakefield).
I worked in London all of my career since leaving college in 1998. Firstly at Cushman & Wakefield (for four years) and ever since at Edgerley Simpson Howe, which I’m now Managing Partner of and jointly run. I moved out to Oxford 20 years ago and commute into London most days – knackering and expensive!
